The Department of Community Development is dedicated to its effort in meeting the needs of citizenry and organization throughout the city. The implementation of successful programs that enhance the community is our number one priority. Housing initiatives, homeownership opportunities and a strong network of supportive public services are the foundation on which a stronger Gary will be built.

The City of Gary is conducting community neighborhood surveys as a means for the community to provide valuable feedback and comments regarding needs in your community’s neighborhood. This helps the City to better understand the community's interests, concerns, and needs. The City also uses the survey results to help develop objectives for the future use of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funds.
