Making Gary safe, livable, clean and vibrant is the overarching, forward-looking vision that guides all planning efforts. Planning encourages progressive land use decisions, consistently works to improve City of Gary ordinances and processes, and carefully reviews each development plan. Tasks include:

• Re-Imagine a strategic, current Master Plan for Development based on the 2019 Comprehensive Plan and The Gary Lakefront District Plan. Current Focus Projects include Transportation Oriented Districts in the City Center’s Broadway District; in the Miller/Aetna/Ryan Neighborhood; and University Park
• Administer the Gary Plan Commission
  The Plan Commission Reviews updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Lakefront District Plan, Applications for Zoning Changes, Planned Unit Developments and Subdivisions to recommend action to the City Council.
